Wellness area: hot, cold, rest — one loop

The design problem isn't the equipment, it's circulation. If a guest has to cross the living room dripping wet, the loop breaks and the room stops getting used.

Complete Wellness Area Bandung — The whole system

Three zones, one loop

Hot, cold, rest. The distance between points should be 3–5 steps — close enough to repeat without thinking, far enough that they don't interfere. The most common mistake we're called in to fix is an ice bath added as an afterthought across the room, and six months later nobody uses it.

What people regret most

Drainage. Water will be on the floor — from the sauna, from the plunge, from people. Floor falls and a drain have to be in the design from day one, because adding them later means demolition. Second: the plant space. Chillers are noisy, and putting one against the rest zone ruins the only part that's supposed to be quiet.

Bandung's specific advantage

In Jakarta or Surabaya the rest zone has to be indoors and air-conditioned — outside air doesn't help you cool. In Bandung, at 750 m with 18–20°C evenings, the rest zone is best outdoors. That's a cost saving and a better experience at once, and it's how we design nearly every wellness area here.

Frequently asked questions

What's the minimum area for a wellness zone?

Around 12–16 m² is enough for a 2–3 person sauna, an ice bath and a rest bench if the loop is designed properly. Shape and door position matter more than raw area.

Can it be built in phases?

Yes, and we often recommend it: sauna first, ice bath later. The condition is that electrical, water and drainage runs go in during phase one — that's the expensive part to retrofit.

Does it make sense for a rental villa?

Very much. A wellness area shows up in guest reviews and differentiates a listing. For heavy commercial use, see our hotel and gym sauna page.

How long does it take to build?

Typically 5–8 weeks from final design to handover, depending on how ready the site's civil works are.
